Lisa's Information Station - Jul 08

Happy July everyone!!!!!  I hope everyone enjoyed their time during July 4!  You know we did!  We celebrated while in Alaska!  What a trip we had!  If you have never been on the Alaskan cruise you need to try and work this into your schedule!  We enjoyed it so much!  And the scenery was just breathtaking!  Just seeing what God has made is truly amazing in itself!

Friday, June 27 - Flying to Seattle, WA

We set our alarm for 4:30 a.m. and got ready to go!  We drove to Atlanta and then flew from Atlanta to Seattle.  Everyone did great on the plane ride!  We arrived by mid afternoon and after getting checked in to the hotel we went for dinner at Saltys Restaurant that is located on the waterfront!  The food there was awesome and the view was spectacular!

Saturday, June 28 - Boarding the Oosterdam in Seattle

We headed for the pier to board the Holland America "Oosterdam".  What an amazing ship!  We set sail around 4:00 p.m. and then we toured the ship.  There were so many things on this ship and lots to do! The kids went swimming in one of the many pools that were on board, they played basketball on the top deck and played ping pong.  They got in some tournaments while on board!  There were shows you could see or you could go watch a movie in the theater.  They also had all kinds of classes you could take.  They had cooking classes and even classes to show you how to make animal towels (I bet you are sitting back going.... HUH?!)  Make sure to check our pictures later to get an idea on the "animal towels".

There was no getting bored on this boat!!!!

Sunday, June 29 - Sailing and Singing

We had one of the many gospel concerts on Sunday afternoon!  It was awesome to sing on a cruise ship!  But you had to watch it or you would lose your balance!  There were a total of seven groups and two soloists!  We had an awesome time singing and ministering during the week!  We sailed all day Sunday and Sunday night!

Monday, June 30 -  Juneau, Alaska

We had a day of shopping in Juneau!  They had several jewelry stores and it was a little more commercialized on the main streets!  We went shopping around the town and spent the day looking around.  You know Tony and Darrell just loved the shopping part!  Of course, Karen and I REALLY enjoyed it!

Tuesday, July 1 - Hubbard Glacier

What an amazing place!  The Hubbard Glacier is a tidewater glacier and it stretches 76 miles to the sea at Yakutat Bay and Disenchantment Bay. It is the longest tidewater glacier in Alaska, with an open calving faces over 6 miles wide!  We had to get our coats out for this place!  It was the coldest day we had during our trip!  At times you could see pieces of the ice falling and crashing into the water.  The guys thought they saw a bear around the base of the glacier that was connected to dry land......

Wednesday, July 2 - Sitka, Alaska

This was the most beautiful stop we had!  The weather was warm and sunny the day we were there which was not normal.  We had to ride the "tender boats" into Sitka.  The ship could not dock for us to walk onto the shore so they transported us by boats that held an estimate of 25 people....  We enjoyed looking thru the historical town.  We visited the Lutheran Church and I even got to play their harp organ.  We loved Sitka!

Thursday, July 3 - Ketchikan, Alaska

This port is considered a logging location.  We took a tour and were amazed at all the eagles we saw.  They were beautiful!  We thought we would see bears but we weren't that lucky.  I thought I saw one off in a distance that was walking up the mountain.  But I am not sure if that is what I saw!  Who knows it might have been "Big Foot"! haha

Friday, July 4 - Victoria British Columbia

We docked here around 6:30 in the evening.  The flowers were blooming and the roses were magnificent and so vibrant! This place was all lit up by the time we left.  It was beautiful here!

Saturday, July 5 - Back in Seattle

Well our vacation is almost at its end! We disembarked the Oosterdam and then we were off to the airport to come home! We arrived home around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday morning!  What a trip!

This was truly an amazing vacation!  It is one we will never forget!

I thank God for giving us the opportunity to take this trip with our family and friends!  There were about 25 in our little group!  Thank you for sharing this trip with us!  It made the trip even more fun sharing it with you all!

Well, until next time........  God Bless You All!

Lisa
